Illogic

This makes my head spin, and I love it when O'Donnell gets his Irish up.

uh-huh.... Telly-com

I was told the connection was restored this morning...

Called, and the 'no connection under this number' signal was gone and it rang... and rang... and rang....

Now, this paragon of a person told me, it had been reactivated, but, if it didn't work, I would have to call someone to go to his house personally to fix it.

So I got IN there this morning, yelling, 'Peter! Peter? Where the fuck ARE you?'

He was snoring away, I had to shake him to wake up. Scared me half to death...

'Your telephone is back on.' Except it wasn't.... No dial tone. Nor the tee-vee, nor the internets, nothing.

I DID get the radio working...

He hasn't had news since before Christmas...

And finally found out how to do that....

(I am so clumsy with this stuff, I could cry...)

And he says, 'You're a wizard...' And I said, 'Don't fucking come at me with Harry Potter, that is ridiculous.'

Frustration, much?

I practically had to force-feed him, but he wants his tee-vee back.

Someone 'up there' just fuckin' help me.

Oh, the weather outside is frightful...

Inside, it's so delightful... and we haven't a place to go... Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...

Riiiight.

I sang that to Peter just before I left to come home a half-hour ago. And by the second line, he was yelling, 'Stop it! Just stop it!'

(I didn't know I even still knew the lyrics to that old chestnut... the things that stick in your head, hey... sad. And I'm not a good singer, but can carry a tune, so to speak, so it wasn't that. Just grinchitude....)

Sigh... so far we've gotten more of that shit than I have seen in a decade. It's bloody perverse. An inch of it maybe? Normal, and I still complain. But today.... I am in full 'I didn't come four thousand miles for THIS! ' mode... Yup.

And the rest of the city wasn't prepared for it either. When I got on the bus, comedy central, aka the transportation office came on with one of their rare 'announcements'. 'Line number 7 in the direction of St. Leonhard is now cleared after an accident that blocked the line. A streetcar derailed on line number 1 at Kroisbach in the direction of Maria Trost. (Mary Comfort, to youse guys...) So line number 1 will only go as far as Hilmteich, and we are trying to get busses to complete the rest of the line.' End of announcement.

Uh-HUH... 'trying to get busses'... hmmm.... stumpers.

Look, it's only been about five to six inches of mush so far, and they break down???

Well, Himmiherrgottfixsakramenthalleluljah.... as we say.

If this keeps up, there are gonna be people out on skis in the streets tomorrow, and that isn't a joke. I have seen it before... in the 80's. The city just never knows how to handle that stuff.

Which always reminds me of a very short piece by Annie Leibowitz from back then, complaining about how poorly NY did clearing the streets during big snow storms. And came up with her infamous neighborhood weather theory. The poorer the neighborhood, the worse the weather. And the then-mayor didn't do anything because he lived in such a good neighborhood, and was out on the balcony getting a sun-tan, and just didn't know.... Cracked me up, it did....

But when this sort of thing happens, I get suspicious.... where IS our fatuous, Christian Dem mayor right now??? Tanning perhaps? Oh, right, he's out in Maria Trost where the streetcar de-railed, so I guess that theory is not fully correct....

Even worse... nobody here knows how to clear a sidewalk correctly with shovels. And they go out and spread a lot... A LOT... of salt out there, which will kill your shoes, and turn everything to slush, and after it stops snowing, it will get even colder, everything freezes over, and walking becomes treacherous. Way to go.

As regards that last... I should play whistle blower and call Al Gore. Because Copenhagen is over, I think... I haven't seen the news today yet.

Grrrrrr inch.

Soap Operas... can make me laugh...

YouTube made me interested....

The parents were the worst acting in a soap opera I have ever seen, the idiocy of discussion didn't surprise me... but otherwise... One Life To Live just makes me cackle with hilarity.

Ok, my triggers for hilarity aren't very loose these days... Talk about drama queens... shee-it. But there is something in the dialogue that makes me think...

Well, as former being in the closet and having fears, some kid it going to just be who he or she is without the fear.

And some people are going to scream, 'Indocrination'. Except it won't be.

Outlyers of Hurricane Bill, and people go out to watch...

I have seen this behaviour before. When Yugoslavia began to fall apart, the local people made outings to the border, to 'watch the war' as the Serbs ran over Slovenia. And that with Serb planes flying up over our airport and we had nothing to counter with.... Said 'border' being a river that wasn't much wider than the one in town here, and it isn't all that wide. So you had the Serbs raising havoc on the other side of the river, and the locals watching what was happening. They were generations of people who hadn't been touched by WWII, and had no sense of the danger, or that someone could be killed by stray bullets across the way. Luckily, no one suffered any damage.... but at the time I thought, 'how crazy can you BE, hey?'

In Maine, some people seem to have lobster brains.... Check this out from Pam's House Blend... I wouldn't take my children out in that weather if you paid me for it.

But another aspect of it is understandable to me. With the exception of a class two hurricane that wreaked havoc in NH in the Thirties, people there aren't USED to that weather, so it is sort of a 'wonder' they want to watch without knowing how life-threatening it is to them, because it never happened before....

It it had been a 'Noreaster in winter, they would have taken precautions and stayed indoors, and kept their kids safe... I hope....

Perceptions. Always perceptions.... and a repsitory of knowledge, I guess, that some people put into the very back of the file cabinets they call their brains.

And to top this off, some poor 70 year old lady up north of here got nervous in that last bad thunderstorm we had that half-knocked off the chimbly of our last house. She was concerned about her freezer in the cellar, and went down there to do something about it? The house must have been near a brook, or something, there isn't a river there. But a brook is something tricky. You get a storm like it was there? Water broke in with such violence, she didn't have a chance, and seemingly being frail, she drowned. All because of the little she had in there.

(Have since learned it knocked off every electrical appliance in the building where I last lived, they still don't have electricity, one family has a private company and it killed their computers as well, so that was gawd retribution if you wish to look at it that way...)
