Annnnd.... the long weekend in US broadcasting is UPON us.

The news cycle stops till Tuesday. Oldies will go into Soap withdrawal, and the WUURRLLD stops.

Happy Fourth to the US peoples. Tja, I got asked how WE celebrate that here. We do not. It is not our national horriday. Ok, the US Embassy and Consulate people will have events, that's clear, but---really?

Every country has their own national holiday. France is having theirs on July 14th, for instance. When the Bastille fell, and the Revolution began. Ours is on October 26th, when the second republic began in 1955 after the last of the WWII occupying troops left the country and turned us on to fending for ourselves... mostly...

I've never seen how the French do that. Here it was usually quiet, reflective, and people went hiking. To enjoy the beauty of the countryside. As of late, it is more 'ambivalent'. It's just another day off.

I've never seen anyone get 'excited' about it.

No barbeques, fireworks, or some arcane traditions.

But it raises the question... does anyone there really KNOW what the fuck it is they are celemabrating? Other than rabid tea-partiers, and then their knowledge of history is provably 'sketchy'. It's just another horriday with fambly you probably avoid the rest of the year.

With all that is going on, just another day to distract people, and not realise how thoroughly they are being fucked over, but go for it. A distraction for a day or so is sometimes a welcome diversion when people are hurting.
