And is usually rife with political rallies of all sorts. I hardly got off the square, and there was the Communist Party rally. Talk about frightening, hey. Fashionistas were close to fainting and emergency calls demanding smelling salts flooded the cell phone lines.
And they were playing )))jazz((( !!! Now we all know how seductive that is. Shameless pandering, I calls it... Although... I haven't heard that good a rendition of 'It Don't Mean a Thing, If It Ain't Got That Swing' in a very long time. They came close to converting me, it was that close.... do-wop do-wop, do-wop do-wop, do-wop do-wop!
There were even Turkish Communists who were kind enough to translate their alphabet soup into German. I hope, anyway.
To control all these wild people be-bopping and hollering their approval at being so seduced, there were four police people there. I think one of them was a secret sympathiser... I saw him tapping his foot, oh yes.
I reluctantly left and visit the main square, where a brass band was at the ready, and would pick up their weapons of cacophony and drop into a march at any given signal.
And there were the other wild radicals, Socialists all. I guess they had benches, because some of them have been at this for decades, and the excitement can tire them out.
The state police were out in full force, and had to fortify themselves with special Wurst in order to subdue any rowdiness. I haven't seen such law enforcement people in that number in years, and began worrying we are becoming a police state..... I couldn't find the Christian Dems. And assume they are having a long weekend in the Canary Islands, or something. Debauch on Tenerifa, or something on that scale. With taxpayer's money, of course... And the guy in the front on the right? He was on his cell, asking for a support line, had to be.
(end snark) Ok, now that I have had my fun, on a serious note: I have never seen so few people out at rallies on May Day. Man, I can remember these groups marching on City Hall by the thousands, back in the day. Hell, I will bet that there was more 'fun' on the main sqare in Ehrenhausen than what I saw here this morning. And the pols were going blah-blah, and a claque would blow whistles at any point made today, and actually, it made me depressed. When did activism become resignation, huh?
Shaking my head sadly... don't have the answer to this... at one point I was wishing for a bench seat. My ischias nerve was killing me. When did we all get so old and complacent?
