TRex hits it out of the park, hey

And brought me to tears of laughter, even though it isn't funny, at base....

It is just a You Tube clip, and a lot of people won't recognise where it comes from, but it is from a wonderfully odd, and thought-provoking film from 2001 that has become cult since, although it didn't do well back then. 'Donny Darko'.

It begins in real time, with Reagan vs. Dukakis, and shortly after there is an accident. And the hero of the story, Jake Gyllenhall (sp?) becomes the saviour of the world. It is about parallel universes, time travel, the weirdest, most wonderful things. The first time you see it, you get to the end titles, and think, 'Whaa????' But it sticks with you. And then you can see it over and over.

One of the figures in the film is a ditz of a Reganesgue supporter, a gym teacher who is into family values, whatever THEY are, and in this parallel universe, is driving the mother of the hero into dispair. Except she gets caught up with this cult guy (Patrick Swayze), who gets outed as a pedophile, and she wants to talk Donnie's mom into accompanying their daughters to a talent competition in LA because he HAS to be innocent, and all, and she wants to defend him. The girl group in the film have the name Sparkle Motion.

That is the reference to the clip TRex posted. That actress was fantastic, btw, and it was a brilliant idea he had.

I know, having to explain it all killls the punch line. And Donnie Darko isn't so much cult there as it is here. But very much worth watching. So take a look. The context hit me as hilarious.
