We did cheat that summer...

Steve, Margot and Chris C and I would sneak out on weekends to see the UNH summer theater productions in English. I don't know if they are always so good, but they had a production of 'A Midsummer's Night Dream' that was so exceptional, and so funny... we went to see it the next night and fell apart laughing.

And we saw 'The Man From La Mancha', which was visually impressive, but easily the weakest of the lot.

And a hilarious version of 'The Importance of Being Earnest.'

And disturbingly... 'The Boys in the Band'. Which I hated. Because it was self-hating. Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf magnified to what the author thought was 'GROUND-BREAKING'. If there were anything devised to make gay people self-loathing, I can't think of one. Voyeurism and disgust combined. It was the sour note in a perfect summer.

One where we laughed and which we thoroughly enjoyed. But going to the theater... yeah, we cheated. But it was fun....
